Can you own parts of Mars?I think the real importance of colonizing Mars and developing nations there is that they can be experiments for nation building on Earth. The lessons we learn about having a fully self-contained nation on Mars will be valuable lessons for Earth. The challenges such as farming vast quantities of food in a small area land will be useful in making Earth farming more efficient. As well as carbon dioxide removal in large habitats.
