Change the World – First Port of Call
The Pharos Lighthouse was constructed at the start of the Ptolemy Dynasty, at the ancient port city of Alexandria – which is famed for it’s Great Library and Serapeum. These two institutions are recognised as a significant seat of learning, functioning as a platform for the exchange of ideas and culture.
The lighthouse utilised reflective technology to enhance and direct the sun’s rays during the day and firelight at night, enabling the lighthouse’s beacon to shine in perpetuity – 24 hours a day, every day of the year. The light was reputed to have been able to be seen from a very great distance, acting as a navigational guide to draw ships towards Alexandria’s harbour – in a similar manner to the function of runway lights at a modern airport. It is even from the Pharos Lighthouse that the word pharology is derived – that is, the study of lighthouses.
Let your light be a beacon for the world.
